Hey ladies. Today we’re gonna be chatting about why community is so important for a successful online business, especially as a Christian woman and why it is literally the difference between scaling or not scaling.

If you are building or trying to figure out how to build an online coaching business, this is literally the piece I see so many women missing. You can have the offers, the content, the strategy…but if the community isn’t there, something will always feel disconnected.

I am reminded why community is so key, partly because of the membership that we just launched, but also because I’m about to head to Florida for our yearly women’s retreat with ladies from my signature coaching program, The Selah Collective

And this is where I get a chance to really foster community in-person with these ladies. And let me tell you, it is life-changing

When you foster community in your online business, God will use it in more ways than you can imagine. It not only creates real relationships with incredible women, but it also builds something that lasts because you’re inviting people into a shared mission

This kind of connection creates deeper buy-in and a following that carries through generations

Why Building an Online Business Alone Leaves You Feeling Disconnected and Stuck

Building a business is isolating as is, and building an online business is extra isolating because you’re behind a computer all the time. You’re not in your community talking to people all the time, and your relationships are more virtual where you feel like you can only go so far in that way.

This was definitely a reality for me. After having my first baby, I just remember feeling like I’m kind of feeling isolated. I didn’t have coworkers, I was running my business from home, and everything about my life shifted – including my sense of community.

And I see this with so many women building a Christian online business or just stepping into a faith-based online business. You’re doing meaningful work, but you’re doing it alone – and over time, that isolation starts to impact your growth.

Why Community Is the Missing Binder That Makes Everything Finally Click

When I look at my online business, one of the biggest things I can point to is this – community is the binder of it all.

It just brings everything together.

I see this at our retreats… Women walk away so changed and build amazing friendships. We’ve had so many business besties come from these spaces, and it’s one of the most powerful ways I’ve built community inside of my programs.

Without community, your business feels like content and offers. With community, it becomes a place where people belong, grow, and stay.

How My Love for Community Started Through Youth Group and Shared Experiences

When I look back, my love for community didn’t start with my online business – it started way earlier. Youth group, summer camp, sports teams… I loved all of it.

I loved bringing people together. I loved the fun, the depth, and building relationships with people who were on a shared mission.

I just loved being part of a team.

And I really think that’s the root of this. We all want to belong somewhere. We all want to be included and feel connected to something bigger than ourselves.

How Building Community in My Local Business Became My Best Marketing Strategy

My love for community carried into young adult life too – working at a ski resort (the season I met my husband:)), church groups, and shared experiences with people on a common mission. But after getting married, moving, and then having my first baby, everything shifted.

I remember thinking, I’m kind of feeling isolated. I was working from home, didn’t have coworkers, and community didn’t feel the same anymore.

That’s actually what led me to start building community in my photography business. I began bringing clients together for shoots and events, and over time, something clicked – they wanted to be a part of something bigger. That became my marketing.

And this is what every Christian coaching business needs to understand – community doesn’t just serve your clients, it attracts them.

Why Going Online Without Community Creates Isolation and Slows Your Growth

When I transitioned online, it felt like no community – complete isolation, especially during COVID.

And this is where things shifted. When I doubled down on community inside my programs, especially through group coaching, that’s when my business really grew.

That was the marketing key, guys.

Because what’s more attractive – buying a course… or being part of something where you’re supported, connected, and not doing it alone?

We all want to belong. And when you build that into your online coaching business, everything changes.

How Community Creates Client Retention, Deeper Belonging, and Long-Term Growth

One of the biggest things community does is it gives people a reason to stay.

You give people a reason to stay and a reason to be involved in the ecosystem.

This is so important if you’re learning how to build an online coaching business that actually lasts. Because this isn’t just about getting clients – it’s about keeping them.

Community becomes the binder for your marketing, your retention, and your long-term brand. It creates relationships that carry through seasons, where people continue to grow with you over time.

How to Intentionally Build Community Into Your Online Coaching Business Today

This is where I want to challenge you.

Where could you build community inside of your business?

Because building community is facilitation. It’s being intentional about relationships and creating spaces where people can connect – not just consume.

  • How could you shift your programs, your offers, or your ministry to include more connections?
  • How could you create a shared mission where people feel like they’re part of something bigger?

Because when you do this, it not only creates deeper buy-in, it enhances the value of what you’ve built and gives people a reason to stay.

You Don’t Need More Strategy – You Need Stronger Community to Truly Scale

If you feel like something isn’t working in your online business, it might not be your strategy…

It might be that you need to build your community.

Because at the end of the day, people don’t just want to buy something – they want to belong. And when you build that into your business, everything changes. You are not meant to build this alone. And when you build with community at the center, you’re not just growing a business – you’re building a legacy.
