Hey, hey, ladies, welcome to today’s episode. We’re gonna be talking about what to do when God will just not let your online business grow. And maybe this is God, maybe this is you, or maybe it’s a mix of both.
Honestly, I cannot wait to share this topic because it has been on my heart for the last couple of years, and I know I am not alone in this. Fall is in full swing here in Colorado, and it has already been a very interesting season. I have personally been walking through a season where everything feels a little unknown, like God is getting ready to shake some things up.
Why Growth Has Felt Slower and Heavier the Last Few Years
I think this is true for around 90% of people in the marketplace right now, not just Christian women building online businesses. Growth has been harder the last two to three years, and just maintaining an online coaching business takes about twice as much work as it used to.
The cost of advertising has gone up, the cost of hiring help has gone up, and sales feel more stagnant while needing so many more touch points along the way. I heard a number recently that a client used to need about seven touchpoints before making a purchasing decision, and now it is closer to 70!
As a Christian Business Coach, I hear this exact same story from client after client, so if you’ve felt this shift too, please know you are not imagining it. Standing out is getting harder, and the growth jumps we used to expect are still there… they just look different than they used to.
With everything changing, I have honestly wondered some days if I even have the capacity or the desire to keep going. Not because I do not love what I do, but because the marketplace itself has genuinely shifted underneath all of us in the last few years.
How You Might Have Drifted Off Course In Your Online Business
First and foremost, I think sometimes we just get off course, and we do not even realize it has happened. One of the things I have been going back to in this season is that I deviated away from my target client a little bit, so I’m revisiting my messaging and some of my offer structures.
Sometimes, getting off course looks like consuming so much information from other people that you forget who you are and what you actually do. I think this has increased with the use of AI as well, because it snuck in while we were all just trying to save time, and it slowly started to steal our voice without us even noticing.
You could also be in the trap of not staying consistent or focused on a clear target, which is one of the fastest ways to lose momentum in an online coaching business for Christian women. If you’re trying to sell fifty different offers and keep rebuilding your marketing every single time, it dilutes your message and your results.
Again, these are the signs you’ve drifted off course:
- You have deviated from who your target client actually is and what she needs from you
- You’re consuming so much content from other people that you don’t know your own voice anymore
- You’re trying to sell too many offers instead of repeating and refining the one that already works
- AI has started making you writing in a different voice than your own
My advice here is the same thing I tell every client inside The Selah Collective. You have to go back and do the work again from the beginning, revisiting who your target client is, what your offer actually is, and who it is designed to serve.
Signs You Actually Need Identity Renewal Before a New Strategy
Sometimes though, it’s not that you’ve drifted off course from your calling in your business, but that you need identity renewal instead. We can get so wrapped up in our way of doing things that we forget we need to be refreshed too.
This summer, I finally hired a personal trainer because I was done with not taking care of my health… and having someone I am accountable to twice a week has changed how I show up in every other area of my life, including as a faith-based online business coach. I needed someone to pour into me because I am usually the one pouring into everyone else.

I also think we need to make actual room to hear God because it’s so easy for me personally to get one-track-minded and locked into work until I have dropped stewardship in every other area of my life. Slowing down enough to hear where He is calling us in this next season is not wasted time… it’s what makes the next season sustainable.
How to Know When It’s Actually Time to Pivot Your Business
Then there are seasons when it really is time to pivot, and that pivot is genuinely for your own good and for your growth. When all else fails, and you feel like you are truly failing at everything you are trying, it might be time to make a change.
But I want to be completely honest here, it’s also really easy to be influenced into believing that what you do is not holy, not needed, or a worthless pursuit, especially after you have worked so hard to build something with the Lord. This is where discernment matters most, because logically, it doesn’t make sense that He would want you to throw away something you’ve built together.
A friend once gave me an analogy I still think about all the time. We often assume God only gives us option A or option B–stay in business or close your business–when He really may be giving you options A through F to choose from… and there is grace over every one of those paths when it comes from surrender rather than fear while running a Kingdom Business Online.
Before you quit or pivot immensely, I want you to count the cost. I was on a discovery call recently with a woman who already knew God had called her to something, and the real question was never “if she should,” but “what does stewarding that calling well actually look like?”
When you’re trying to discern whether it’s time to pivot, ask yourself:
- Can your priorities actually get back in order while you keep running this online business?
- Have you counted the cost of walking away, not just emotionally but practically too?
- Are you looking at the real data or are your emotions telling a different story than your numbers?
- Is this a calling you need to release or a season you need to push through?
Why This Online Business Journey Requires Constant Surrender
At the end of the day, I think the online business journey is full of constant, steadfast surrender, and I do not think that ever fully stops. We have to keep realigning our priorities and remembering our stewardship, like making sure all of our bills are still being paid.
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and starting over or going back to a day job does not automatically make life easier… because those same bills and responsibilities do not just disappear. I’m not trying to take away from the power of God when He calls someone to close a door. I just think it’s easy to over-spiritualize what is really a need for renewal instead of an actual ending.
So if you’re wondering whether it’s God or if it’s you, I hope this gave you some real, honest places to start looking. Sometimes it’s getting back on course, sometimes it’s identity renewal, and sometimes it really is time to pivot, but you do not have to figure out which one alone.
