Hey, hey, ladies! Today we’re talking about something I don’t think enough people are actually saying out loud: healing is literally the key that unlocks the next level in your online business. I’ve been sitting with this for the last few weeks, and I am so excited to finally break it down for you.
It has been a minute since I’ve been this consistent on the podcast. I ran through our first live Set Apart Launch University cohort last month, I preloaded my sales season, and I’ve been rebuilding some backend things all summer. But in the middle of all that momentum, God kept bringing up one theme over and over again for those of us building a faith-based online business…and that theme is healing.
When Hidden Triggers Pop Up Even After You Thought You Were Healed
I don’t know what it is, but sometimes you think you’re over something. Enough time has passed, you’ve moved on, and then out of nowhere, something comes to challenge or test you, and something old gets unearthed. I’ve had a couple of these instances pop up in the last month or so, and it’s not bad…but it is challenging me to think differently about what God wants to use me for.
If I’m honest, this last year has been a very hard emotional year for me. There’s been a fog I couldn’t quite kick, and my joy has felt suppressed. Part of it, I think, traces back to the deep grief so many of us walked through with the passing of Charlie Kirk last year, and I still can’t believe it’s already been a year.
That grief bled into this past year for me, and it felt like we went from expecting an amazing 2026 to getting hit with the biggest impact, like that scene in the movie Deep Impact with the giant wave. It put a lot of us, especially as a Christian Woman Entrepreneur, into a mode of bracing for impact, nervous system dysregulation, and becoming overly cautious. And I think that survival response–always bracing for the next thing–is actually what keeps us from getting to the next level in our online business.
Here’s the pattern I’ve noticed. When these hidden triggers come up and you keep hitting the same ceiling, it usually starts in your thought life. You think about a certain situation or person, and an old memory or a repressed feeling comes right back up with it.
Finally Breaking Through the Ceiling You Keep Hitting
A lot of this, I think, comes down to awareness. I was talking to one of my best friends the other day. She’s a licensed counselor going through somatic training, and we got into how you can know something in your mind logically and still have your body react completely differently. That gap between what you know and what your body actually experiences is where so many of us get stuck.
This actually reminds me of a situation I went through last year. A friendship went a little sour, and this person started twisting my words on me, which is hard for someone like me who says exactly what she means. I think that friendship was honestly a little emotionally abusive, and I’ve seen the same pattern happen to other women too.
Not long after, I went into a brand new friendship and caught myself over-apologizing about something that didn’t even need an apology. My new friend actually called me on it. She asked if I had just apologized for that, and I had to admit that I did. Underneath the surface, I was carrying trauma from that old friendship into a new one…and it had me thinking that if I didn’t say something perfectly, someone was going to misunderstand me.
When I recognized what was happening, it actually set me free. I didn’t have to be so cautious or so perfectly buttoned up all the time, and honestly, that realization was a relief. God doesn’t want us walking around bracing for impact. He wants us to have freedom.
Here are a few signs I’ve noticed that point to a hidden trigger instead of a truly healed place:
- You keep hitting the same ceiling in a relationship, a launch, or a decision, no matter how much strategy you add
- You catch yourself over-apologizing or over-explaining for things that never needed an apology
- You feel a wave of anxiety every time your phone buzzes, expecting bad news that isn’t even there
- You notice apathy or relational disconnect creeping in because feeling anything at all feels dangerous
- You’re bracing for the next hit instead of actually resting in what God has already done
Your Online Business Is Hindered When You Are Not Healed
Here’s where I’m really going with all of this, and it’s something I don’t hear enough Christian Business Coach voices actually saying: your online business is going to be hindered when you are not healed. Your body, your mind, and your spirit are always going to be bracing for impact, over-apologizing, or over-fixing as a response to what’s unhealed underneath.
Let’s say you had one bad client…and ladies, you will have one–everybody who works with hundreds of people eventually does. If every single time you pick up your phone, you feel anxiety wondering what complaint or what email is about to come in, that’s not just a rough season…that’s a trauma response that needs actual healing.
My dad told me once that after he retired from running his business, it took him five years to calm all the way down. Five years! And I think about how much time we waste bracing instead of walking into healing as a business growth strategy, and how good it would feel to stop carrying triggers everywhere we go.
I see this in my ladies in the beginning phases of online business too. They’re so scared of losing money that they sit frozen instead of investing in a coaching program or running a Facebook ad. And nothing good (no breakthrough and no overcoming) ever comes out of sitting in paralysis.
Leaders are not held back by strategy. Leaders are held back by the unhealed parts of themselves that they haven’t dealt with yet. We are never going to arrive perfectly on this side of heaven, but the seasons where I have stepped out of my pain and into what God actually called me to do have been the seasons where my leadership has felt the most on fire.
Here’s what starts to shift once you actually deal with what’s underneath:
- You stop bracing for the next bad thing and start operating from peace instead of survival
- You can receive correction or a hard conversation without spiraling into old wounds
- You make bold decisions and investments in your business without freezing in fear
- You lead your team, your clients, and your family from overflow instead of depletion
- You finally break through the ceiling you’ve been hitting again and again
