As I listened to another podcast I was inspired to film this episode. Today we are talking about traveling with kiddos! I have traveled several times within the US and internationally with babies. I have taken my babies to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Mexico, and more, so today I wanted to share with you some helpful tips for traveling with kids.
Planning
Planning is a crucial factor when it comes to having a successful trip with kids. It’s important to think about what a day in this location will look like. Will you be in a city taking tours, on the beach, or hiking? Knowing this helps you plan what you will need. Think about strollers, bed space, diaper changing situations (will you need a stroller to change diapers on), will there be access to laundry, etc.
Also, keep in mind the documents you will need such as passports, notarized letters for medical needs, birth certificates, etc.
Packing
When it comes to packing you can get most things in other places, so don’t worry if you forget something or don’t have enough space to pack it. However, if you have space and don’t want to find those things, then pack them! I liked packing my own diapers and wipes for trips, but that is just a personal preference. Also, remember the everyday necessities such as muslin swaddle blankets, sippy cups or bottles, pacifiers, snacks, and clothes.
Depending on where you are headed, think about packing shade coverings, sunscreen, baby carriers, strollers, backpacks, etc. Also, think about what activities/toys you need. I felt like I never really needed that stuff, however, Ipads are nice depending on their age.
Travel
When flying, bring your car seat! If you bring your car seat to the gate, they give you a free seat if there is one available as a courtesy, just ask. I also recommend getting a hotel room if you get in late or need to leave early. I personally liked evening flights because my kids would typically sleep more.
Remember that you will be moving at a different pace with kids because there will need to be more food breaks, naps, diaper changes, etc. You can definitely still do a lot just have a set plan and have someone to help you.
With some preparation and a plan, you will have an awesome trip! Don’t let kids stop you from taking trips and exploring the world!
