I am literally the last person who thought I would want to homeschool. I love my online business and working as a Christian Business Coach; being a homemaker and doing the motherhood thing is hard for me. But God has been putting something on my heart over the last few years that has gone from an idea – to “no way” – to “that might be kind of fun” – to full desire mode. So today we’re talking all about being called to homeschool and run an online coaching business.
Every time we have a new idea like this, the doubts come – Is it something I can do? What about my business? How can I juggle everything? I don’t know what will happen, but I am dealing with conflicting feelings on going all in on my business or all in on my family. It’s time to make a decision. Today, I want to share my thoughts behind this decision-making process.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS PROCESS
There is a movement of mothers being called back to the home. It’s not about letting go of something, it’s more about integrating our business into our motherhood and families. This means building our businesses differently than the world.
Children are not supposed to be away from their families for so many hours per day. Right now, children have crazy identity issues because they are being raised outside their homes, it’s almost survival of the fittest – before they even know who they are. Now is the time for us to take back our children – our pearls – from being raised in society.
STOP THE RUSH
Nothing good comes from doing something in a rush or when we’re stressed. Getting to school and rushing around in the afternoons doesn’t bring out the best in us – we rush to get to school, we don’t have natural rhythms, we’re running to get everywhere, and it doesn’t set anyone up for success. We’re all tired and the anxiety builds, leading to burn out and identity issues.
HOW DOES THIS MIX WITH BUSINESS?
The truth is, I don’t know. But I do feel called. All the pieces aren’t in place yet. My husband isn’t 100% on board yet, so we have to navigate that together. I am praying about this decision. I am not closing my business – but getting smarter about how I spend my time and being able to let go of some pieces of my business to others is in the works.
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” I’m not sure what the next steps are, but I have a lot of hope about the future, as I start taking some action to get prepared for this decision. We have a mighty calling as parents – and it’s time for us to respond to the call to the home!
