232. When You Blame Someone For Your Lack of Success as an Online Coach

Hey friends. Ashley June here. Today I’m diving into a touchy topic, but one that I believe so many online Christian coaches and business owners truly need to hear right now.

If you’re building or scaling a faith-based online business, you know the online coaching industry can feel like a minefield. From influencers who promise overnight success to programs that don’t deliver, it’s easy to feel burned out, confused, and – if we’re honest…frustrated. But I want to gently call out something I see happening way too often in the world of online coaching.

And that’s this: blaming other people for why your business isn’t successful.

Listen, I get it. I’ve been there. I’ve made big investments. I’ve taken chances on people or programs that didn’t deliver what I hoped for. But I also know that at the end of the day, my success as an online Christian business coach doesn’t hinge on someone else. It hinges on how I respond.

And I’m going to walk you through why blaming others is one of the top reasons Christian entrepreneurs fail in the online space – and what to do instead.

Let’s Talk About the Blame Game

Have you ever heard someone say, “I hired a coach, and it didn’t work for me”? Or maybe they jump on Threads or Facebook and share a sob story about how they invested in a program and didn’t see results. I see it constantly, and while sometimes these stories are valid (yes, there are bad coaches out there), often, there’s more to the story.

I often notice these patterns in my own programs. The clients who don’t succeed usually struggle with three things:

  1. Failure to Launch: They never actually implement the strategies. They wait, they overthink, and they never truly begin.

  2. Constantly Changing Strategies: They jump from one idea to the next based on emotion, never sticking with anything long enough to see results.

  3. Lack of Clarity: They haven’t taken the time to truly get clear on what God is calling them to do – and instead of working through the discomfort, they give up or pivot endlessly.

Why Clients Fail (And It’s Not Always What You Think)

The truth is, building an online coaching business, especially a Christian coaching business – isn’t just about finding the right strategy. It’s about doing the heart work.

When I see someone blaming their coach or a program, what I often see underneath is a wound. Sometimes it’s a childhood wound – maybe they were always the “good girl,” trying to do everything right and avoid getting in trouble. And so when something doesn’t work out, they’re quick to find someone else to take the fall because owning a mistake is just too painful.

There’s a pridefulness in never wanting to make mistakes. But you guys, in entrepreneurship, mistakes are part of the journey.

Real Talk: Coaches Aren’t Babysitters

Sometimes, people expect their coach to do everything for them. They want motivation, clarity, and step-by-step instructions handed to them – and when they don’t take initiative or follow through, they blame their coach.

But that’s not how this works.

Your coach can give you tools, guidance, strategy, and encouragement – but she can’t want your success more than you do. And she certainly can’t be the one to do the work for you.

If you’re a Christian entrepreneur looking to grow an online coaching business, let me be clear: your success requires your own grit, your own ownership, and your own faith.

This Might Be the Reason You’re Stuck

I say this with love, but if you find yourself stuck – if your online coaching business isn’t growing – it’s time to ask yourself: Am I taking ownership? Or am I secretly blaming someone else?

Did you invest in a coach but never implemented what she taught you?

Did you change your business idea three times in three months?

Did you walk away from something before you gave it the time and consistency it needed?

Blaming others gives you a temporary escape from accountability, but it guarantees long-term failure.

Entrepreneurship Is a Battle – And You’ve Got to Suit Up

As Christian business owners, we’re not building businesses like the world. We’re building ministries, families, and legacies. And that means we have to put on the armor of God and be ready for battle.

The enemy would love nothing more than to keep you stuck in blame and bitterness. Because if you’re blaming others, you’re not growing. And if you’re not growing, you’re not impacting.

So I say this in love: stop pointing the finger and start taking radical ownership.

Yes, There Are Bad Coaches – But There’s Also More to the Story

Trust me, I know there are coaches and programs out there that aren’t ethical, that don’t care about you, and that overpromise and underdeliver. I’ve experienced this myself (hello, Facebook ad agency from my past). But even in those situations, I had to ask myself: What was my part in this? Was I ready? Did I do my due diligence?

Because even when others don’t live up to expectations, I can still learn. I can grow. And I can walk away wiser and more equipped for the next step.

What to Do If You’re Feeling This Way

If you’re reading this and feeling a twinge of conviction, good. That means the Holy Spirit is working.

Here’s what I want you to do:

  • Take a moment to ask God to reveal any areas where you’ve been shifting blame.

  • Confess it. Own it. Repent if you need to.

  • Forgive those who didn’t deliver what they promised.

  • Then get back in the game. Create your plan. Get support. And show up.

You’re the Only One Who Can Build What God’s Put on Your Heart

You were called to build an online faith-based business – not just for income, but for impact and legacy. But nobody can do it for you. Not your coach, not your spouse, not your best friend. Only you can partner with the Holy Spirit to birth what God has put in your heart.

So let’s stop the blame game. Let’s rise up as women of valor who walk in courage, conviction, and radical ownership.

You were made for this. You were born to lead. And you don’t need to build your business like the world.
