Hey ladies!

Summer is in full swing, and honestly, I kind of took a break from podcasting after we got done with our last big live event. Part of that was recovering from the 90 days of May with family and kiddos and all the things that we needed to do, but it has been so nice to disconnect.

A huge thing this summer is that I have removed so much from the calendar. I did not sign the kids up for many activities or sports because typically our summers are a little more packed. This summer I actually have the margin, and I’m excited because there are things that I want to work on, catch up on, and put time and commitment into. I feel like I’m actually going to have the capacity to go do it.

As a Christian Online Business Coach, I spend a lot of time talking with women who are building an online business, growing a coaching business, and figuring out what it looks like to create income online. I’m excited to share with you something I’ve been walking through personally and how it relates to so many Christian women in online business.

I’ve been so committed to building my online business… but if I’m being honest, I’ve struggled to keep up with everything else – especially my personal health.

I can get so hyper-focused on my business that I start neglecting other areas of my life… sometimes without even realizing it.

And I know I’m not the only one – so many entrepreneurs struggle with this.

When You Reach the End of Yourself, Everything Starts to Change

Over the last couple of years, I’ve been thinking a lot about the cost of what it takes to run a business. I’ve felt like I’ve been hitting caps or limits, and I think it’s because of areas I need to work on personally. It doesn’t help that the economy is crazy, the market is crazy – but that just is what it is. We show up, we do the thing, and in the end, it’s all for the Kingdom – but I know God is also calling me to grow in other areas of my life too.

I’ve been feeling like God wants to do a lot. A lot with my family, a lot with my health, a lot with my business, and a lot with me. I still have so many ideas and things that I want to do, but I’ve reached a point where I really want to count the cost of what that means and make sure I can handle the pace of things.

I’m about to turn 40, and perimenopause is doing its thing. Hormones are changing, energy is changing, and I don’t have the same amount of energy that I did when I started online in 2018 and 2019. The other day I was with a friend, and she said it’s like you look at food and you gain weight, and honestly, that has felt like the story.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made recently is that I started working with a personal trainer. I am so excited because I have felt so stuck. I have all the knowledge in the world, but I can’t do the thing. I can’t fix eating habits, exercise habits, or some of the things that I want to change.

Working with a personal trainer means I’m working with someone who can help me do the things I want to do, hold me accountable, and track my progress. I think you just reach the end of yourself.

That’s exactly where I’m at right now… I’m reaching the end of myself. Yes, I’m going to build this business, raise my kids, homeschool, and do all the things online, but I need help in these different areas. We’re not really called to do it alone. Biblically speaking, we’re supposed to bear one another’s burdens.

When you get to a certain level in business, you get to the point where you realize you can either keep trying to do these things yourself, or you can finally let someone in and help you achieve your goals.

I think that’s true whether you’re a Christian online coach, building a faith-based online business, or learning how to grow an online coaching business. Sometimes we just need some help.

I’ve seen this in my own life for years. We’ve had a house cleaner consistently for probably six or seven years. I could either spend hours every week cleaning my home, or I could have someone come in who is an expert in that area and free up my energy for other things.

If I’m trying to run my business, homeschool, eat healthy, exercise, and clean my house…that’s just a lot. My motivation is not going to keep me there.

Why Summer Is the Best Time to Commit to Mentorship

One thing I have realized is that summer is a great time to commit to mentoring or accountability. During the school year, you’re busy in the day-to-day. You’re moving from one thing to the next, and there is always something happening.

Summer is kind of a reset.

You get the opportunity to:

  • Reset habits
  • Reset emotions
  • Create new rhythms
  • Build new habits

I was talking with a friend at the gym about schedules and how summer changes everything. Sometimes those changes feel disruptive, but they can also become opportunities to create something new.

The summer is great for that because you’re probably home a little more… Maybe kids are home, you get a break from the grind, and there aren’t the same holidays and obligations that show up throughout the rest of the year.

Bandwidth just comes back in the summer.

Summer is a time of refreshing and a time of blooming. That’s why I think it’s a great time to commit to mentoring. I knew with the personal training thing that if I wanted it to carry into the school year when things get crazy again, I needed to build the habit this summer while I have the margin.

The same thing applies to business. Whether you’re building an online business, working toward your first 100K, or trying to become the woman who can lead, sell, and build online, summer creates space to build habits that can carry into the next season.

What’s Really Stopping You From Committing to a Process?

One of the questions I kept coming back to while recording this episode was simple…

What is stopping you from just committing and asking for the help?

Why is there resistance to just committing to a process?

I am 100 percent guilty of this myself. I notice it’s emotional for me. I feel busy, so I procrastinate. I don’t allow myself the margin to sit down and do the CEO work on my mind and body that I need to do.

Over the last year or two, I haven’t been in my planner the way I used to be, I haven’t been time blocking, and I’ve gone more off the feel of things. Some of that has been helpful because I’ve focused on regulating my nervous system, but I think it has also gone too far in some ways.

I’ve found myself feeling behind, lacking clarity, and not wanting to push myself because I want to stay regulated. What I’ve discovered is that planning too far in advance can make me feel anxious, and making decisions can make me feel anxious.

So then I just don’t make them.

I’ve been identifying that as a block. I’m noticing where resistance is showing up. Sometimes we tell ourselves:

  • When I’m done with this
  • When I’m done with that
  • Next week

But at some point, we have to take the mental energy to make a decision. We have to set apart time to make a decision.

I’ve been identifying these blocks in my own life, and maybe you’re seeing some of them in yours too.

Stop Trying to Build Your Business Alone

As I look back over this season, I keep coming back to the same realization. We’re not meant to do this alone.

Whether it’s a mentor, an accountability partner, a coach, or even a friendship where you’re holding each other accountable, stepping into a dynamic where you don’t have to do it alone is so worth it.

If you keep trying to do things alone, you’re going to burn out. You’re going to reach the end of yourself. You’re going to get tired of circling the same mountain.

The question isn’t whether help would be beneficial. The question is whether you want to keep trying to do it yourself, or whether you’re ready to let someone help you achieve the goals that God has put in front of you. That’s really what this season has been teaching me. I reached the end of myself in some areas, and instead of continuing to push through alone, I decided to get help. Sometimes that’s the very thing that allows you to move forward.
