Hey, hey ladies.
This one is going to be a little bit ranty, and I want to say that right out of the gate.
We’re talking about something that I see all the time in the online world, but honestly, it goes far beyond online business. I see it in everyday life, in relationships, in families, and in leadership.
This one character flaw will quietly sabotage your growth as a Christian business owner, and if you don’t address it, it will keep you stuck far longer than you ever need to be.
So today, we’re digging deep…
The One Thing Killing Your Online Business Success
I don’t know why this particular thing hits such a nerve for me, but it does.
It’s a bad attitude.
My blood starts to boil when I’m around it. I’ve seen it in clients, team members, peers, and honestly just people in general. And before this gets misunderstood, let me be very clear about what I’m not saying.
- This is not about never having emotions.
- This is not about never venting or processing hard things.
- This is not about pretending life is easy.
We all walk through hard seasons. We all have moments where things feel frustrating or heavy. That’s normal. But when a bad attitude becomes your posture – when this is how you walk through life – it starts killing your business, your relationships, and it’s honestly probably affecting your health too.
Studies have shown that gratitude literally changes your brain chemistry. When you have a bad attitude, it can become almost addictive and change the wiring of your brain by strengthening those whiny pathways. The Bible already makes this clear. We are called to speak life, not death. And when someone consistently shows up with negativity, complaint, and bitterness, that’s exactly what they’re doing.
Whiners Will Never Win (And I’ll Say That Again)
Let me make this very clear.
If you grumble and whine, you will spend 40 years in the wilderness.
That’s not me being dramatic. That’s biblical.
And I don’t just mean in your online business. I mean in your marriage, your parenting, your friendships, your leadership, and your faith.
Whining prolongs wilderness seasons.
Here’s the thing: the cream of the crop is too busy building their dreams to sit around whining. I have honestly never met a truly successful person who is a chronic whiner.
That doesn’t mean successful people don’t have hard days. They do. They’ve walked through deep hardship. But they’ve learned how to process pain without camping in it.
They turn lemons into lemonade.
Why Successful Christian Women Think Differently
When I think about successful Christian women in online business, I don’t think about women who have never suffered. I think about women who have developed resilience.
- They have crazy faith.
- They have unshakeable courage.
- They keep showing up even when things aren’t working yet.
And they don’t lead with a “poor me” mindset.
If you build your online business from a “woe is me” posture – justified or not – you will stay stuck.
Character Was Modeled for Me Early (And I’m So Grateful)
I’m honestly so thankful I had parents who did not allow whining. Character mattered a lot in our house.
We were taught to:
- Work hard
- Dream big
- Take responsibility
- Do things with a good attitude
And the Bible backs that up. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).
Run your online business, show up for your kids, and lead others as if you’re doing it for the Lord.
I’m not perfect at this. Not even close. But we are called to aim for it.
When Clients Have a Bad Attitude (The Hard Truth)
Let’s talk about attitude in online business for a minute.
I don’t deal with bad attitudes in clients very often – thankfully. But when I do, I’ll be honest with you…I’m counting down the days until the contract ends.
Because it’s exhausting.
When you’re working with someone who constantly complains, catastrophizes, or refuses ownership, you can’t control how they respond. You have to persevere through it.
And that takes patience.
But here’s the key: as a Christian Business Coach, you can call this out.
You can lovingly hold up a mirror and show someone what’s happening internally. And yes, you absolutely need wisdom, discernment, and to speak the truth in love. But God has called us to speak life, not tiptoe around dysfunction.
Why Blaming Others Is a Heart Check
If you find yourself blaming:
- A coach
- A program
- A mentor
- The algorithm
- Your circumstances
For why you’re not successful, it’s time for self-reflection.
A lot of whining is rooted in bitterness. Something inside that feels justified. Something that says, “I don’t deserve to be here.” Some people who’ve walked through deep trauma live in a state of constant alert. Everything feels scary to them.
But the truth is, this can change. God has given us the ability to renew our minds. He’s given us the fruit of the Spirit.
Growth is possible when we’re willing to look honestly at what’s happening beneath the surface.
When Bad Attitudes Are All Around You
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t your attitude – it’s the environment you’re in.
I find this especially challenging when I’m surrounded by people who are constantly looking for what’s wrong or always expecting the worst. And if I’m not careful, I can start whining about their whining.
That’s a heart check for me.
Even righteous frustration can turn toxic if I camp there.
So when I notice myself spending too much emotional energy complaining about someone else’s attitude, I have to stop and reset my posture before the Lord.
Who You Spend Time With Will Shape You (You Are Who Your Friends Are)
This is the part I really want you to hear. You will become like the five closest people around you.
So the question is simple:
Are you hanging out with victors or victims?
I had to take a hard look at some relationships this past year. I realized I had allowed certain people into my life who consistently pulled me down.
And I noticed something about myself too. I attract that sometimes because I want to be loving. But love does not mean a lack of boundaries.
You don’t have to stay in relationships that drain you, and you don’t have to tolerate chronic negativity. You are allowed to draw lines that protect your heart and your calling.
Walking Out of the Wilderness
If you’ve found yourself constantly whining lately – or constantly surrounded by it – something needs to shift. That might mean stronger boundaries. It might mean holding yourself accountable for your attitude. It might also mean taking an honest inventory of who you’re allowing to influence you.
But I’ll say this again.
I have never seen someone with a consistently bad, whiny attitude be successful in this world.
Building an Christian online business requires faith and endurance. Showing up day after day with a “poor me” posture leads to long wilderness seasons that just aren’t necessary. But you don’t have to stay there. You can literally rewire your brain for gratitude.
Victory has already been won. Jesus has already won.
All you have to do is claim that victory and choose to walk in it.I’m praying for you, friend. You are a victor.
