Okay ladies…let’s be real. If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just get plain tired of your own excuses. You know you’re called to more, but you keep spinning your wheels, telling yourself the same stories about why you can’t or shouldn’t take that next step. I’ve been there, and I know you probably have too.
That’s why in today’s episode of the Set-Apart Online Business Podcast, I’m breaking down what’s actually behind our excuses, how to take authority over them, and how to move forward in a way that helps you grow a sustainable online Christian coaching business.
Because here’s the truth: excuses will always feel easier. But if you want to build a business that reflects Christ and actually lasts, you’ve got to deal with them once and for all.
Why Excuses Keep Us Stuck
Excuses are sneaky. They make us feel justified, but they quietly rob us of momentum.
I’ve coached hundreds of women as a Christian Business Coach, and the pattern is the same: women show up with big dreams – building a coaching business, chasing freedom, making an impact. But when it’s time to actually put in the work, the excuses roll in.
We think we’re too busy, too tired, or that someone else will do it for us. We hope life will slow down, but it doesn’t. The chaos keeps coming, and unless we shift how we respond, we’ll stay stuck.
Motivation Doesn’t Work – Belief Does
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that motivation doesn’t change people. Belief does.
For years, I tried adding accountability strategies inside my programs. And while they worked beautifully for women who were already committed, they didn’t move the needle for those who hadn’t truly decided to take action.
If you’re a Christian Life Coach or an entrepreneur, you’ve probably seen this with your own clients too. Until someone believes they are ready for change, no strategy will stick. Motivation is a quick spark – it feels good but fizzles out fast.
What really creates transformation is a belief shift. You have to believe you’re called. You have to believe you’re ready. And you have to stop letting the broken record of excuses run the show.
My Own Excuse Story
For me, excuses showed up around my health. For the last several years, exercise wasn’t a priority. Between homeschooling, running a business, and lingering injuries, I told myself over and over: it’s too hard, I’ll just get hurt again, I’ll never get back to where I was.
But here’s what I started doing: I began speaking life instead of excuses. Instead of saying, “I hate exercise,” I started saying, “I love exercise. I love the way it feels. I’m thankful for a body that can move.”
And you know what? My attitude actually started to change. This is what Scripture means when it tells us to take our thoughts captive. Even neuroscience confirms it – your brain rewires itself with repetition.
This same principle applies to business. Hate writing emails? Speak life over it. Struggle with sales calls? Speak life over them. The power of life and death is in the tongue, and if you want to grow your faith-based business, you’ve got to train your thoughts to agree with truth, not lies.
Repetition Changes Your Thought Life
I’ve seen this play out with my daughter during homeschool. She once convinced herself she couldn’t do her math. Through repetition, truth, and discipline, she ended up finishing a test above her grade level.
That’s the power of repetition. Every time a negative thought comes up about your business, replace it with truth – ten times if you need to. Over time, those repeated declarations form new pathways in your brain. They create a new thought life that empowers action.
Excuses won’t grow your business. Discipline will. Submission to the Lord will. Repetition of truth will.
Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time
Here’s some tough love: life will never stop happening. Kids will get sick. Finances will fluctuate. Distractions will pop up.
If God has called you to build this business, then it’s time to decide that excuses no longer get to be in charge. You don’t need perfect motivation – you need belief.
Excuses will keep you broke, burned out, and bitter. Belief will move you forward.
Today’s Challenge
I want to challenge you today:
- Pick one area where you’ve been making excuses.
- Every time that excuse pops up, replace it with a life-giving truth.
- Do the work anyway – not perfectly, but faithfully – as unto the Lord.
That’s how you’ll grow. Not with hustle. Not with striving. But with renewed belief, disciplined thoughts, and obedience to God’s call on your life.
