Hey, hey friends! Today I’m diving into a topic that hits close to home for so many of us – why you’re not making money online as a Christian coach – and exactly what you need to do to fix that – ASAP! This is one of those episodes where we’re going deep, so let’s get real about what’s holding you back from the financial breakthrough you’ve been praying for.
The Goal: Money and Ministry, Together
Alright, let’s be real for a sec. We’re here because we want to make money online, right? I mean, yes, we’re here to serve, and our Christian coaching businesses are part of our calling, but if we’re not making money, it’s really hard to keep showing up without burning out. As a Christian Business Coach, I totally get it. We want to merge ministry with business. But here’s the reality – if we’re not seeing the income, it’s easy to feel defeated and question if we’re even on the right path.
Here’s what I’m seeing over and over in my programs and with other coaches trying to make it work online–it all comes down to double-mindedness. Yep, that’s right. Double-mindedness is the big thing holding so many of us back from true financial success.
Confusion Breeds Little Action
Let me break this down for you because double-mindedness is something we don’t often think about, but it’s a huge roadblock. When we’re confused about our business direction, jumping from one idea to the next, or listening to every voice but God’s – we’re not moving forward. We’re stuck. And when you’re not clear, you don’t act. This is especially critical when you’re trying to build a coaching business from a faith-based perspective. Confusion keeps us from taking those bold, God-centered steps we need to grow.
You might have heard the phrase “confusion breeds little action.” That’s what’s happening in your Christian Coaching business. You’re trying to go a hundred different ways, but God told you to go in one direction. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, or maybe you’re just busy with all the wrong things – like posting on Instagram every day, chasing those vanity metrics, or constantly comparing yourself to others in the space. Jesus himself spent 30 years in private ministry before stepping out publicly, and we can learn a lot from that. Sometimes, we need to slow down and do the internal work before expecting the harvest.
How Double-Mindedness Shows Up in Your Christian Coaching Business
I see double-mindedness pop up in so many ways. Here’s what it might look like for you:
- You Don’t Commit to One Path: Maybe you feel God’s calling to be an online business owner, but then you see something else that looks “flashier” or more popular, so you shift gears. Sound familiar? Every time you do this, you’re starting from scratch instead of building momentum.
- You Join Programs but Don’t Stick to the Plan: This one’s big. How many times have you signed up for an online Christian coaching program only to disengage halfway through because you felt like it wasn’t right or got scared? I see it often – you sign up for a program, then stop doing the work, blaming the coach or the program instead of committing to the process. Friends, if God called you to that path, stay with it! Double-mindedness makes you lose sight of the reason you joined in the first place.
- You’re Busy with the Wrong Tasks: You’re spending your time on what I call the “shiny object work,” but you’re not laying the foundation. You’re stuck in busywork mode – tasks that feel productive but aren’t moving your business forward. If you’re serious about learning how to build a coaching business, you have to focus on work that brings results, not just what looks good on social media.
James 1:7-8 says, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” This is powerful, ladies! If you’re double-minded, constantly changing course or hesitating, you won’t see the results you’re longing for.
God Laid Out the Path – So Why Are You Adding Extra Steps?
Here’s what I’ve learned through my own journey. If God laid out the path, why are we adding extra steps? He told you what to teach, where to start – He gave you the roadmap! But so often, we’re over here making it way more complicated than it needs to be. This is one of the biggest mistakes I see in the Christian coaching industry – overcomplicating things.
One of the best pieces of advice I can give is this–get really good at one thing at a time. When I first started in the photography world, I focused on SEO and perfected it. By the time I pivoted into coaching, I had inquiries pouring in because of my SEO work. And when I entered the online coaching space, I knew I wasn’t going to build my business organically. I jumped into Facebook ads because I wanted results faster, and I knew organic wasn’t the path for me. That’s how I was able to make money as a Christian coach without burning out.
Instead of being scared, I invested… did I see fruit overnight? Yes and no. I had to trust that God would provide even when I wasn’t seeing instant results. That’s where faith comes in.
Busy with the Wrong Tasks? Here’s What You Need to Focus On
If you’re serious about making money as a Christian coach, you need to focus on the foundational work. I see so many coaches get stuck in “sexy work” – the stuff that looks flashy but doesn’t move the needle. But this foundational work is what will help you create a sustainable, profitable coaching business that honors God.
Here’s what this looks like practically:
- Let Go of the Shiny Objects: Just because you see other Christian Life Coaches or business mentors doing something doesn’t mean it’s for you. Stick to the path God has given you.
- Do the Internal Work: Take this time to grow your roots. Just as Jesus spent 30 years preparing for his ministry, don’t rush to get quick results. Do the deep work first.
- Stop Overcomplicating the Process: I see this all the time – adding unnecessary steps and detours. Trust the process God has given you instead of trying to DIY every step.
Embracing the Journey Without Immediate Results
This is so important, and I can’t emphasize it enough. You’re not always going to see fruit right away, but that doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path. God isn’t looking for instant success. He’s preparing you, refining you. If you don’t see fruit in the next six months, does that mean you give up? No. Next year? Probably not. This is especially true if you’re building a Christian coaching business – it takes time to cultivate an authentic, God-centered business.
You know that saying, “You reap what you sow”? If you’re constantly uprooting your seeds and moving them to different soil, they’re never going to grow. But if you’re faithful, if you trust the process and stay rooted in the calling God has given you, you will see that harvest.
How to Fix Double-Mindedness and Start Seeing Results
- Identify Your Distractions: Recognize where your focus is split, and let those distractions go. This is essential if you’re committed to a faith-based coaching business.
- Commit to One Strategy at a Time: Get really good at one thing. For me, it was launching with Facebook ads, which I mastered before moving on to other strategies.
- Invest in the Right Tools and Support: If you’re ready to build a God-centered coaching business, don’t be afraid to invest in the right programs or mentors.
- Stay True to Your Purpose: You’re here to serve in a way that no one else can. Keep your eyes on that purpose.
- Be Okay with Slow Growth: Trust that God is doing a work in you, even when you don’t see it. Faith is stepping out without all the answers.
If there’s one thing I want you to take away, it’s this – double-mindedness is what’s stopping you from making money. Clarity and focus are what will take you forward. Choose one path, commit to it, and stay obedient. God has given you a purpose, and the best way to honor that is to let go of distractions and trust His plan.
