I have had a few strong conversations with the Lord asking, “God, do You want me to build a business or start a ministry?” It had always felt like the answer would be an either/or and that is how I asked the question. I am sure you can relate to the tension between building something that feels impactful and Spirit-led, but also needing it to be profitable. We all have a need to feed the family and keep the lights on; at home and work quite honestly.
That’s exactly what we’re unpacking today. And let me just say—it is biblical that this doesn’t have to be either/or. You can absolutely build a Christian coaching business that functions as a ministry, and you can structure the same faith-based online business in a way that is deeply impactful and sustainable.
My “Either/Or” Moment
As most of you probably know, I started my entrepreneurial journey in a completely different lane. I ran a local photography business from 2013–2018. It was profitable, successful, and got me plugged into our local business community—but it wasn’t set up as a faith-based business. Honestly, I didn’t believe I could integrate ministry and business. I thought I had to choose.
But 2020 hit, the world turned upside down, and I felt like the Lord gave me a green light: go ALL IN. Go all in with your faith. Go all in with your calling. Go all in with serving Christian women who are also called to create and build.
That was the moment I realized that my business could be my ministry. And this changed everything for me.
Why Ministry and Business Can Coexist
Let’s break off the religious “pressure” for a minute. Here’s the truth:
- Just because your business earns money doesn’t mean it’s not a ministry.
- A faith forward, Christian online business can fund and sustain your mission as well as your family.
- Your business is a tool, even a vehicle, for your Kingdom assignment.
And here’s what I want to encourage you with today…you don’t have to be broke to be holy. You can earn while you serve. You can make money and multiply the Kingdom.
Y’all, Jesus didn’t shy away from strategy. God gave us brains and blueprints for a reason.
Stewardship, Sustainability & Strategy
When you view your online business through a ministry lens, it actually increases the urgency to build it well. To build it sustainably. You’re not just creating a coaching program for fun—you’re offering transformation. You’re helping someone get free. You’re standing in the gap for someone’s breakthrough.
One of the biggest lies we believe is that ministry means giving everything away for free.
But look at how the church functions—we give tithes and offerings to support ministry work. These funds are what keeps the lights on and allows pastors, missionaries, and leaders to continue their calling. Why should your Christian business function any differently?
For example, if you’re a Christian Business Coach, this principle is for you too. Build boundaries. Price your offers to reflect the transformation you deliver. Steward your time and energy well.
Because the truth is: you serve better when there are resources.
Your Business Is a Ministry
So many of my clients are doing the most incredible things. My powerful ladies are leading deliverance ministries, building marriage coaching programs, helping families regulate their nervous systems, selling biblical healing oils, creating prophetic mentorship programs…the online business needs are endless.
They’re not asking, “Am I in business or in ministry?” They’re simultaneously saying, “This is my business. This is my ministry.”
And they’re getting paid for it. And you know what? That income allows them to:
—Take care of their families.
—Fund mission trips and spiritual retreats.
—Create powerful experiences for clients.
—Scale their impact inside and outside of traditional ministry.
That’s not selfish. That’s smart stewardship of what the Lord has placed on your heart.
What One Verse in Isaiah Has Taught Me
“I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.” – Isaiah 22:22
This is your reminder that YOU hold a spiritual key! That dream in your heart? That offer that won’t leave you alone? That message that’s been bubbling up inside of you for years?
It’s not random. It’s a key. It opens something in the spirit. And you have the authority to turn it.
So open the door(s) He’s calling you to open—and shut the ones that are stealing your peace.
My Shift into Faith-Based Business
When I went fully into a faith-based online coaching business in 2020, I had to stop hiding behind generic messaging. I had to get really honest about who I wanted to serve.
I didn’t want to be watered-down anymore. I wanted a brand that stood for truth. That reflected my values. That attracted women who loved Jesus, who wanted to disrupt culture, and who were ready to build Holy Spirit-led online businesses that would change lives.
And once I did that? Everything aligned.
I now get to equip Kingdom minded business women to launch and scale their online businesses. I get to help them build signature programs that set captives free. I get to witness their bold obedience and celebrate the fruit of their surrender.
That’s what happens when you refuse to settle for either/or—and go all in on both.
Ministries Need Money. Let’s Stop Pretending They Don’t.
Let me just say it plainly: a sustainable ministry requires money.
Stop thinking that asking for payment is greedy. It’s not. It’s necessary. When you operate from the right heart posture, from a place of overflow instead of depletion, you serve better, you love deeper, and you last longer.
Just like Dave Ramsey; he didn’t start a nonprofit! He saw a need for people who needed to learn how to better steward their finances. You do not need to start a nonprofit in order to reach people either. You can create businesses with a way that funds your life and still pour out to others.
Let me leave you with this: You don’t have to choose between the sacred and the strategic. You can be a Kingdom Entrepreneur, a Christian Life Coach, an Online Business Woman, and a ministry leader—all at the same time.
