In today’s podcast episode, we’ll dive into the question of whether it’s better to build a high-ticket or low-ticket program as a Christian online coach or course creator. This is a question I often receive from new coaches and course creators who join the Selah Collective, particularly from Christian women coaches who struggle with charging for their services. I want to emphasize that there’s no definitive right answer to this question. Some people thrive with either approach, and it largely depends on how their marketing is perceived. Let’s explore the differences between high-ticket and low-ticket offerings to gain a better understanding.
HIGH-TICKET VS. LOW-TICKET DIFFERENCES
A high-ticket offer serves as a solid starting point when establishing a coaching business. It provides stability because it brings in more money. By offering a high-quality product or service, you can generate profits despite operating on a lower quantity model. However, it’s important to note that even with a low-ticket model, you will often need a stabilizing course or coaching offer.
Low-ticket programs require high traffic to be successful, making them more suitable for influencer-style marketers who can leverage their existing audience. For the average person, this approach may not be as effective, especially when utilizing paid advertising, which requires extensive optimization. When considering your marketing strategy, it’s essential to think about the lifestyle you want to lead. Are you more inclined to be an influencer, run Facebook ads, or focus on networking?
TINY OFFER MAY WORK
One strategy that works well is incorporating tiny offers as lead magnets or downsells. These smaller offers can be used to cover the costs of audience building and are effective in self-liquidating funnels. However, building your entire coaching business solely on these tiny offers is not recommended. Instead, there should be a high-ticket offer that addresses a specific need. I personally began using tiny offers in my photography business a few years ago. I found them beneficial for launches and freebies, and I plan to create a small front-end offer that serves a similar purpose.
EASIEST PATH TO START
It’s important to understand that if you have no audience at the moment and are looking for the easiest path to start, creating a high-ticket offer may be the way to go. From a mathematical standpoint, having one person purchase a $5000 offer is more advantageous than having five people buy a $100 offer.
In the coaching industry, the typical progression involves starting with a high-ticket offer and then transitioning into course creation and low-ticket offerings.
What I like about high-ticket offers is that they require you to get close and personal with your audience. It’s crucial not to compare yourself to others and instead develop your own unique marketing strategy and way of doing things. While I provide systems, it’s essential to infuse them with your own personality. Everyone wants to claim they’ve figured out a special system, and while that can be true, it’s not the entire story. If you’re starting out and don’t have an audience yet, a high-ticket offer will likely make the most sense for you. Low-ticket offerings can be useful for downsells and other strategies. The key is to gain clarity and create a signature offer that aligns with your goals and values.
