Let me take you back to a moment that changed everything for me…
I was in my mid 20’s, stuck in a corporate job that made me physically sick. And I’m not just being dramatic—I literally had chronic anxiety, cold sores, and constant fatigue. I prayed every morning that I’d survive another day. I pushed myself. I tried to make it work. I told myself it was just a hard season. But was it?
Today I’m diving into something that not enough Christian women talk about in online business or business in general: what happens when God’s grace lifts from a season and it’s time to change directions.
This isn’t your typical “pivot your business” stuff. This is real, raw Christian business advice that explores how to discern if you’re burnt out, in a hard season…or if the grace on your assignment has been (or is being) lifted.
This is something I wish someone had sat me down and talked to me about earlier in my journey. Because friend, seasons come and go. And knowing how to discern them is critical when you’re building a faith-based business.
Is Your Grace Expiring…Or Are You Just In a Tough Season?
This is the question that as a Christian Business Coach I now ask many of my clients. Just because something is hard doesn’t automatically mean God is calling you to quit. But if the ease is gone…if what once felt like a joy now feels like dread…you need to pause and evaluate.
“You have to ask yourself why—what was once so easy…is now so hard?”
When I was nearing the end of my photography business, I remember forcing myself out the door for photo shoots. I was tired of editing. Tired of running around. Tired of being pulled away from my kids. And the joy? It was gone. I was five years into my business and at a point that I did not even remotely want to pick up my camera.
Contrast that with where I am now—seven years into the Christian coaching industry—and I still feel lit up. Have there been moments of being tired and nearing burnout? Of course. But there’s a flow, a fire, and a joy that’s still very much alive in me for this business.
Pain Often Precedes Breakthrough
Most of the time, when grace is expiring, it’s not a clean and quiet transition. It’s usually messy.
Laced with heartache. Wrapped in uncertainty. Marked by resistance. Usually, these times are not pretty—when grace expires.
I’ll never forget my first corporate job. I was 26, recently married, and working at a bank. Everything was going well until I was placed under a new mentor—someone who, let’s just say, did not exactly champion me. I was bullied, micromanaged, and belittled. I prayed every single day for God to help me endure, to change my heart, to strengthen me.
But I kept getting sick. I was breaking down physically and emotionally. I couldn’t sleep. My body was screaming, “Get out!” And then one day…I was fired!
Yes, me. The hard worker. The go-getter. The girl who never thought she’d get let go. And you know what? I was relieved. Because that closed door became the open gate to my first business. That pain? It pushed me into entrepreneurship.
I was so upset when I got fired…but it actually lit me up. I said to myself, “I’m never going to work so hard for someone else just to be so thrown away ever again.”
Freedom to Change the Plan
There’s a lie in the online business world—and even in the Church—that says quitting means failure. But as a Christian Business Coach, I want you to hear me clearly:
You have the freedom to change plans.
Sometimes God assigns us to something for a season, and when it’s complete, it’s OK to move on. It doesn’t mean you’re giving up. It means you’re being obedient.
I remember asking my mom, “Can I quit my business?” Because it kind of felt like if you quit something, you’re a failure. But not in this Kingdom life. Sometimes you just want to change. And that’s okay.
Maybe your family needs something different.
Maybe your health is declining, and you need margin.
Maybe your kids are growing, and emotional energy is needed at home.
Maybe your business structure needs to shift so you can actually breathe again.
It Might Be Time to Restructure—Not Quit
Now let’s be real. Not every season of hardship means your grace has expired. Sometimes, you’re just tired. You need systems. Boundaries. Support. If it’s just a tough season…you have to make some shifts to avoid burnout. That doesn’t necessarily mean giving up.
Maybe you’re trying to get launched and it hasn’t worked yet. That doesn’t mean your online business idea is wrong. It just means you might need to refine your messaging, or align your strategy with your Holy Spirit-led business vision.
Or maybe you’re scaling but you feel suffocated by client calls and delivery demands. That doesn’t mean shut it down. It might mean shift from a one-to-one to a one-to-many business model. Automate. Delegate. The key is discernment.
2020 Was My Wilderness…And My Breakthrough
Another major pivot moment for me happened in 2020 when I finally decided to niche down into a faith-based business. It was scary. Uncomfortable. And it cost me.
Friendships ended. Peers attacked me. But the chains of fear of man fell off of me. It was literally like my hatching moment. I had tried to fit into the world’s box for too long. I watered down my faith. I tiptoed around the truth. But when God called me to go all-in as a Christian online business entrepreneur, it came with cost—but also so much clarity.
That was the year my online coaching business exploded.
That was the year I finally found my people.
That was the year I felt FREE.

Whether you’re meant to stay and tweak, or you’re being called into a whole new thing—just know that you’re not alone. We’re in this together. This is what it means to build a Kingdom business: we follow the Spirit, not the hustle.
So if something is soul-sucking, painful, or fruitless—ask God, “Is this my wilderness or my graduation?”
